About BOXWOOD and me
The Origin: Box Hill & Burwood
Boxwood and Me began as a forensic documentation of the Melbourne transit loop. The name is a portmanteau of Box Hill and Burwood—our starting point and original lens. While our roots are in the eastern suburbs, the audit extends wherever the suburban grind meets the rural edge. From the high-density friction of a boba queue to the blunt reality of outer-suburban roadkill, the studio captures the specimens of the everyday.
The Perspective: The Local Observer
The work is a record of the "unexceptional." The ideas are sourced from the street, late-night conversations, and the "plop" of a boba pearl, then processed through a technical discipline. The title of Local Observer belongs to anyone who finds the wabi-sabi in the ordinary.
The Discipline: Scalar Industrial Design
The documentation is informed by over two decades of design literacy. The foundation was laid during the transition to digital production, with a Diploma of Graphic Art (2002) and early hands-on experience in commercial print production. From the physical logic of press plates and film photography to the clinical precision of modern design tools, the work bridges the gap between old-school "ink-on-paper" literacy and high-end apparel.
This perspective was further refined by almost 9 years of international observation, time spent living and working across the Pearl River Delta. This background helped shape a forensic way of seeing the everyday—recognizing the structural truths found in any neighborhood.
-
Detailed Scalar Specimens: While the designs are built as high-fidelity scalar (vector) files to ensure infinite resolution, the studio rejects the clean, corporate look. We utilize a specialized process to capture heavy charcoal-grit, waxy fills, and industrial textures that remain sharp at any scale.
-
Print-Shop Literacy: Every design is built with an understanding of CMYK gamuts and industrial output. With a history spanning print shops, freelance design, and digital media, the work is optimized for physical permanence, ensuring the digital vision translates to a high-quality physical "uniform."
